Abstract

The aim of this research is to develop a scale that determines the critical classroom management practices in universities according to student perceptions as a requirement of pluralistic democracy. Universities are of great importance in educating students in accordance with contemporary developments in line with both universal, social and individual demands. In today's world, where global competition in every field has made the world a racing field, the importance of universal education has increased even more. It is important for universities to provide services to their students with teaching quality under 21st Century conditions. Both student performance and the quality of university teaching services need to be determined through process-oriented measurement and evaluation practices. Measurement and evaluation tools that will reveal student performance must have both critical and objective criteria in line with the development of the students. For this reason, the research aimed to develop a critical classroom management measurement and evaluation scale that will contribute to the development of democratic teaching in universities.

This study, which aims to develop a scale that determines critical classroom management practices in universities according to student perceptions, is a basic research. The study group of the research consists of students studying at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University faculties of education and pharmacy. Since the research is a scale development study, two separate samples were obtained in different processes for the pilot and final form of the developed scale. Within the scope of the study, "Critical Classroom Management Scale" was used as a data collection tool. The pilot form of the scale consists of 16 items. The scale was prepared in accordance with the 5-point Likert level.

According to the findings of the research, it is seen that pre-service teachers from different branches and students of the faculty of pharmacy criticize the academicians who take part in the teaching processes in almost every aspect related to teaching. It was determined that the expectations of the students in the context of criticism of academicians were at a high level. The results of the research show that university students have made it a behavior that studying in a pluralistic, democratic and critical classroom is a fundamental right to education.
