Abstract

Weaving, which is a part of our cultural heritage, continues as a traditional production method. It
also appears as industrial and artistic productions with the technological developments and the
benefits of modern life. The art of weaving has developed and diversified in line with different
purposes and uses in the historical process. Especially the establishment of the Bauhaus School in
the 19th century was an important turning point for the art of weaving. At the same time, this period
can be regarded as the beginning of artistic weaving. As in many areas, a radical change and
transformation has been experienced in the textile field. Textile artists / designers have entered into
new searches and inventions by using the weaving technique and they created three-dimensional,
voluminous and sculptural weavings. In the study, it is aimed to contribute to the textile field by
examining on the basis of material, technique and form of textile artists / designers selected threedimensional examples of the woven art field, focusing in the contemporary artists in todays
Turkey. This research conducted with observation and document analysis methods covers the
examination of selected (these works) (three-dimensional, voluminous, sculptural weavings),
structural technical features and formal and aesthetic effects supported by written and oral
interviews with artists / designers.
