INVESTIGATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' MATHEMATICS ANXIETY-ANNOUNCEMENT LEVELS IN TERMS OF DIFFERENT VARIABLES (İSTANBUL EXAMPLE)

Abstract

Purpose of the research; The aim of this study is to examine the mathematics anxiety-anxiety levels
of secondary school students in terms of grade level, school type and gender variables. The
population of the research consists of secondary school students, and the sample consists of a total
of 594 students, 359 girls and 235 boys, living in Istanbul and studying at the secondary school
level. As a data collection tool, "Personal Information Form" and "Math Anxiety-Anxiety Scale"
(MAS) developed by Ikegulu (1998) and analyzed by Özdemir and Gür (2011) were used. As a
result of the research, there was no statistically significant difference between the mathematics
anxiety-anxiety levels of female and male students, the mathematics anxiety-anxiety levels of the
secondary school students studying in public schools were higher than the mathematics anxietyanxiety levels of the students studying in private schools, and the secondary school students were in
the classroom they studied. It was found that there was no statistically significant difference
between math anxiety-anxiety levels according to the students' levels. In line with the results and
comparisons, the results of the research can be shared with the mathematics teachers working in
public and private schools and supported by qualitative study methods, and an in-depth examination
of the causes can be carried out. In addition, within the scope of the guidance activities carried out
in schools, the results of the research can be benefited from in the mathematics anxiety-anxiety
studies. The research can be expanded by working with different sample groups.
