A SOCIOLOGICAL RESEARCH IN THE CONTEXT OF HOUSING AND RELIGION IN URBAN LIFE

Abstract

This study deals with the relationship between houses, which are the natural habitats of civilized
people, and religious life. The aim of the study is to determine the positive or negative effects of the
newly built houses in the Yükseltepe and Şehit Kubilay neighborhoods of Keçiören district of
Ankara on the social and religious life of individuals and to offer suggestions for subsequent
housing projects. In this context, regarding the research subject; The state of fulfilling the
requirements of the religion of the individuals living in the houses, their views on religion, the
source of their religious knowledge, the state of greeting in terms of social and religious relations,
the effect of cramped buildings on privacy, the preference of housing type suitable for religious life,
the effects of housing on religious life and causal factors. topics such as these were examined and
the findings were tried to be analyzed. The research is a field study based on the quantitative
method. In the field study, probabilistic sampling technique was used as a sampling technique. In
order to obtain the research data, a face-to-face survey technique, one of the data collection
techniques of the scanning method, was applied and a survey was conducted with 405 people. As a
result, while the opinion of the participants that religion is necessary both in this world and in the
hereafter is high, the level of fulfilling the requirements of religion is low. It has been determined
that the cramped buildings threaten the privacy of the participants and therefore they prefer
detached houses suitable for religious life. Therefore, it is important that the newly built house
constitutes integrity with its project, design, height, width, architecture, structure and all equipment
features, and the socio-cultural and religious character of the society.
