Abstract

A REVIEW ON ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY IN SUBSTANCE ADDICTION AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LOW SELF PERCEPTION AND SUBSTANCE ADDICTION

Substance abuse is one of the important social problems that is increasing all over the world and negatively affects human health and plays a major role in the shaping of self-concept. In line with the findings in the literature, self-concept is how a person perceives and evaluates his/her own self. There is an interaction between substance abuse and low self-perception that needs to be taken into account.ACT has been shown to be a highly successful intervention in reducing various mental disorders and substance use disorders (SUDs).ACT is a form of behaviour therapy that teaches people to learn to accept rather than avoid challenging situations in their lives. Acceptance and commitment therapy provides important support in substance abuse treatment through processes specific to the psychological resilience model on which it is based. The aim of this review study is to examine the relationship between low self-perception and substance addiction and to review the literature on the treatment of substance addiction with acceptance and commitment therapy.
