Fire safety should be considered together during the projecting phase, and should not be ignored during the application phase
and should be evaluated as a whole with the design. The regulation on the protection of buildings against fire is the main
leading guideline. In order to take precautions related to fire safety, architects must have sufficient knowledge and interpret
the regulations correctly. Each project presents a different interpretation and problem in terms of fire safety. It is expected that
architects should have sufficient knowledge in order to question fire safety adequately in projects.
In this study, it is aimed to determine how much knowledge architects have about fire safety and to determine the missing
points of fire regulations, to identify the difficulties involved in fire safety during the design and implementation stages and to
make suggestions. For this purpose, a four-stage questionnaire was conducted to 152 architects registered to the chamber of
architects in Bursa. The questionnaire was prepared based on the provisions of the fire regulations. Observing the precautions
to be taken during the project phase, especially the lack of materials for material selection and implementation, and the lack of
inspections and sanctions in the project and implementation phases are identified as the main problems
