Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between attachments styles and life quality of
secondary school adolescents. It is investigated whether attachment styles and quality of life
differed among the groups (age, gender, family income level) formed on the basis of sociodemographic characteristics. Participants included 305 students enrolled in secondary several
schools in Bahçelievler, Istanbul. While 182 of the particpants female, 123 of them were male.
“Demographic İnformation Scale”, “Three Dimension Attachment Styles Scale” and “Life Quality
Scale For Children” were used in order to identify personal information, attachment styles and life
quality of the participants. In the study relational screening method, one of the quantitave research
methods is used. For multiple comparion analyses, t test (for the comparion of two data sets) and F
test (for the comparison of data sets more than two) were used. Tukey analysis were employed in
order to find out whether the differences were meaningful. Moreover, Pearson correlation test was
used to find out relationship between the variables. The results of the study showed that there was a
positive relationship between secure attachment and physical, social, affective variables and school
life quality. Moreover, negative relationship was found between avoidant attachment and physical,
social, affective variables and school life quality. While there was a differentiation in the subdimensions of attachment style and quality of life according to the gender variable, according to the
family income level variable, only difference in school life quality scores was determined.
Suggestions were proposed on the basis of findings which were discussed with regard to relevant
literature.
