Abstract

The aim of the research is to reveal the opinions of school principals on distance education.
Phenomenology design, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research.
The study group of the research consists of 14 school principals working in primary, secondary and
high schools located in Turhal district center of Tokat. The data of the study were collected with the
form "School Administrators' Opinions (Interview Form) About Distance Education Process"
developed by the researchers. The data obtained in the research were analyzed using the content
analysis technique. As a result of the analyses, the opinions of the participants were expressed
categorically and transformed into an interpretable form. In the research, being economical,
eliminating time and space limitations, and providing individual study responsibility emerged as
positive aspects of distance education, while measurement and evaluation could not be done
instantly compared to face-to-face education, participation in the course was not at a sufficient
level, insufficient infrastructure, lack of legislation and the most important managerial The lack of
supervision emerged as its negative aspects. It has been concluded that distance education can only
be used as a supportive system in environments where there are difficulties in conducting face-toface education.
