Abstract

Today, cigarette is an object that has a high addiction rate and contains many negative effects in
both material and spiritual terms. In this study, cigarette is considered as a consumption material in
the sociological context. It is observed that smoking is widespread, especially among the religious
people, regardless of men and women. Therefore, in the study, the opinions of the religious people
about smoking were asked to the interviewees. This research, which was designed with a qualitative
research design, is based on the statements of 16 interviewees. The interviewees consist of
academicians working at Ankara University Faculty of Theology and subject to different fields and
age groups. In this context, the data; He evaluated religion with expressions such as material,
health, addiction, vanity, status, enjoyment and pleasure.
