GOYA IN THE PERIOD I LIVED AND THE DISASTERS OF WAR SERIES

Abstract

Francisco de Goya is a very important painter for the history of Spain and the art of engraving. The
primary aim of this research paper is to analyze the 18th century Spain into which Goya was born
and lived, and how his emotions during this period were transferred to his works. Goya, who lived
his life at different extremes throughout his life, grew up in a poor family and later became the First
Court Painter and his fame spread all over Spain, and he was a Court Painter whose value was
known and respected in his time. Aware of all these realizations, Goya has always been an artist
who constantly produced and worked without losing his ambition despite the difficulties and pain
in his life. In 1793, Goya, whose life changed completely after he started to experience deafness as
a result of an illness he had, entered a period of serious pessimism when the Spain entered the war
with the France. After all these experiences, he started to make paintings and prints of monsters and witches that he
only saw in his dreams, or the psychology that the war had brought with it, as well as the subjects
such as death, hunger and ugliness. "The Disasters of War" series, which is discussed in this article,
is a series of engravings that he made while he was a rich palace painter, in order to show the
suffering of his people by internally opposing the government. According to some sources, this
series is the best anti-war manifesto ever made. Goya's life, how he started painting, his illness and
