Abstract

In this study, it is tried to determine the opinions of Turkish parents living in Germany on their children's problems of
learning their mother tongue. The first environment in which the individual begins to receive his own culture is his
family. The most basic element in culture is mother tongue.The first factor in helping children to live their own identity
and language in Germany is their families. Although there are some other factors like Schools and Environments which
may support on this the family is key factor. In this context, the opinions of parents about the problems they encounter
in the process of learning their childrens mother tongue are very important. Within the scope of qualitative research, a
data collection tool based on the interview method was developed by scanning relevant resources and taking expert
opinion. Data collected from parents were analyzed in the SPSS program. According to findings from parents'
opinions, the main problem of the Children living in Germany in the way of learning their mother language is the lack
of expert trainers. It has been identified that children are not motivated in their mother tongue education and can’t use
the four basic language skills at the expected level. It was determined that insufficient the main language education
curriculum and course materials used. In addition, it has been identified that parents cannot provide their children with
the necessary support during their mother tongue education.
