THE CONCEPT AND USAGE OF “ZAHİBU AL-HADİTH” ONE OF THE JARH WORDS

Abstract

Within the framework of the science of Jarh and Tadeel, some Jarh words have emerged to express
the acceptance or rejection of the narrations. One of them is the concept of “Zahib al-hadith”, which
means “hadiths which have been lost”. This concept is formed from the word “zahib”, used in the
first part of the phrase, which means “walking” or “passing”. One of the similar loaded Jarh words
used from time to time is the concept of “zahaba hadithuhu”.
“Zahib al-hadith”, which is considered one of the most loaded Jarh words, is in the same category
with loaded Jarh phrases such as matruk al hadith, kazzab and saqit. The words of Jarh in this
category indicate the abandonment of the narrations, and they are generally used for derelict and
false narrators whose narrations are not written even for credibility. Among the first to use this
concept, which started to become widespread in the 3rd century of Hijrah, famoust hadith scholars
such as Ahmed b. Hanbal, Imam Bukhari, Imam Muslim, Abu Zura al-Razi, Abu Hatim al-Razi and
his son Ibn Abi Hatim, Al-Hakim al-Naysaburi and Suyuti were exit.It is seen in the sources that many narrators are interpreted with this wording. Today, this concept is
considered as one of the loaded Jarh words.
