Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to determine the personal and socio-cultural variables that
cause girls to move away from sports activities during adolescence. “The reasons why girls
withdraw from sports during adolescence” is a multivariate set of processes that can be explained
by many factors. In this research process, first of all, the general characteristics of adolescence were
tried to be presented simply. In this context, an attempt has been made to describe the relationships
between the variables that generally cause girls to quit sports and the adolescence period. It has
been evaluated that many factors such as society, family, age, economic, socio-cultural, education
and individual differences have active or passive effects on girls' sports activities. In the context of
this research, the reasons why girls quit physical activities or sports were analyzed in detail in terms
of basic variables. An attempt has been made to reveal the mutual effects of the main variables that
cause girls to quit sports. In addition, the problem dimensions that these negative factors may affect
each other have been evaluated and preventive approaches have been tried to be discussed.
Adolescence is a phase of multivariate physical changes for both boys and girls. It is a fact that
adolescence creates many different negative effects, both individually and socially, especially on
girls. A girl's expectations from sports development may vary depending on the anthropological
characteristics of the society she lives in. This research attempted to determine the individual and
socio-cultural factors that cause girls to stay away from physical activities or sports during
adolescence.
The research is a descriptive study conducted in the survey model. The research was conducted at
the secondary school level. In the context of the research, the reasons why girls quit physical
activities and sports were tried to be determined through social field observations and objective
examinations. According to the findings of the research, it has been revealed that physical activities
or sports have many benefits for people, especially physical and psychological health. It has been
found that especially children's involvement in sports activities has positive effects on their
psychological and physical health and social adaptation. For girls, it has been concluded that
physical activities and sports have very positive effects on creating a social model.
